My Dorm

I walk inside and look around the bleak room. I sigh and set my bags on the bed to the left. "I guess my roomie isn't here yet." I say suddenly hoping that she, whoever she was, wouldn't show up at all, so I could be alone. I start unbacking my bags, I pull out loads of books, and almost no colthes or other necessities.

Kagami knocked gently on the door, biting her lip. She hoped her new room-mate was nice, and at least reasonably kind to her. "E-Excuse me! I'm Kagami, the new transfer student? I'm meant to be sharing a room with you!" She called.

I looked up from my piles of books "Oh...hey." I mutter. "You sure this is your room?" I ask hoping it was a mistake.

She took an involuntary step back. Great, already unwanted. She looked down. "Uhm...N-No..But i'll find another room if you want.." She said, already turning around. "Nice," She muttered under her breath. "Looks like nobody in this school is even willing to give me a chance,"

I sigh. "Hey girl! Wait a sec would ya?" I call before she goes too far.

She froze, her shoulders hunched. Now what? Did she drop something? Or was the girl only going to make some sort of snide comment. Right now she didnt need this. "...Yeah?" She finally replied, her voice becoming quite defensive to avoid getting hurt any further by the pupils of this strange school.

I run my fingers vigurosly though my hair, alread regretting the words before they come out of my mouth. "Just come on in, it's no big deal where you stay." I say looking at her forehead, for I am not able to make full on eye contact without freaking out.

"..No," She shook her head. "I know when i'm not wanted. If you dont want me staying here, say so. I'm already an outcast here, i dont want people pretending they like me. I'd rather if you were frank," She said, that was possibly the most she'd said at any one time since she'd got here.

"Alright, I don't like you. You're hair is too close to my color, you seem really young, and to unconfident. But I don't like anyone, so I might as well have you in here than someone else who might be a nutcase right?" I say trying to joke about it, but obviously I didn't know how to go about it, so I stood there feeling akward.

"Really young? I'm 16! Your report says youre 17, you're only a year older. I'm only unconfident because its my first day in a huge boarding school with people who keep giving me dirty looks. Is that so wrong?" She said, or rather snapped, but regretted it afterwards. Swiftly withdrawing back into her shell, she went down the stairs and into the lounge area of the dorms.

"Ugh..." I fall back onto my bed. "Why do people make it so hard to be around people?!" I say in frustraion. I sigh and get up, walking towards the window. I open it up and look outside. "I'll never understand people..." I mutter then shrug. "Maybe it's for the best." I close my eyes and let the breeze wash over me.

Kagami curled up on the couch, burying her face in a pillow. She was going to hate this place, she knew she would. Everyone was so horrible to her and she hadnt even been here for a full day yet. She wanted the comfort of home. Her mother, her father, especially her younger sister. She couldnt even sleep. Things werent going well at all.

I run my fingers though my hair once again, and sigh once more before I close the window. I bite on my lip and move my books onto a shelf, which couldn't even contain half of the books I owned. "I hope I didn't upset that kid too much..." I wonder aloud.

She sighed heavily and sniffed slightly. "No, Kagami, you cant cry. That'll make things worse. Dont be that girl," She muttered to herself, shaking her head viciously. After that, she just curled up into a sort of ball, squeezing her eyes shut tight.

I shake my head, deciding that if the girl showed up again, I'd be nicer to her, and if she didn't...well then that was that. I didn't need to waste time on the situation for too long.

She finally got up and walked out, heading down to the office. She knocked on the glass pane of the front office and cleared her throat. "E-Excuse me? I'm here to ask about switching dorms..." She murmured.

An woman in her early fourties looked up at Kagami. "Did you say you want to change dorms Mis...?" She raised her eyebrow sceptically.

She nodded hesitantly. "Uhm..Y-Yeah..I really don't feel welcome right now and maybe its best if i just stay in a room on my own? I mean, if thats not too much trouble," She added at the end, trying not to sound too demanding.

"Well..." The woman glanced over at her paperwork and frowned. "I'm so sure we could do that...but I might be able to...if you could just get consent from your roomate we might be able to pull some strings." She said almost apologetically.

permission...? Great, as if this couldnt get any worse... She nodded. "I...See, thank you for your time.." She said as she closed the glass pane again and walked back up to the dorms. This was going to be awkward, but if the girl didnt want her there, she would happily give her consent.

I pulled off my shirt and pants and put on a white nightgown feeling sleepy. (Like in the second pic on my siggy but without the thing in her hair). I sat on my bet and open the fist book my fingers can find. I open it up and endulge myself in it.

Kagami opened the door without so much as a knock, wanting to get this over with quickly. "I organised to switch rooms, so i need your consent..." She murmured, not even looking directly at the girl. She felt awkward and lonely, feelings she hadn't really felt before up until now.

"What?!" I ask stunned. "I but...is that really what you want?" I stare at the girl, she seemed so sad. Did I make her that upset...?

She felt the girls eyes on her, and didnt look up yet again. "I think its best if i keep to myself...Nobody wants me here, so i wont get in the way. Staying on my own is probably for the best. I'll just get in the way," She tried to explain, but a lump was rising in her throat, and she had to squeeze her eyes shut tightly so no tears would escape them.

"Oh...I see." I say somewhat sadly. "Just...well just before you go...I-I wanted to apologize. I didn't realize how crule I was being. I hope you'll forgive me...even if you really do decide to leave." I bite on my lip knowing I wasn't usually good with people, and wondering if my words had any effect on her at all.
